Cancer Prevention & Testing: A Proactive Approach at Upper Room Clinic
Cancer doesn’t have free will—but you do. Taking charge of your health means choosing knowledge over fear and prevention over uncertainty. Through advanced cancer testing and precision diagnostics from RGCC (Research Genetic Cancer Centre), you can face the unknown with confidence, clarity, and resilience.
A cancer diagnosis is not the end of the story—it can be the beginning of a more intentional, empowered chapter of life.
At the Upper Room Clinic, we provide personalized cancer prevention, risk assessment, and genetic testing in Toronto and Oakville, in collaboration with our trusted community partners across Ontario. We believe in choice, autonomy, and proactive healthcare, giving you the tools to make decisions that align with your values and future.
Our physician, Dr. Biljana Kostovic, is a lead RGCC provider in Canada, mentoring other clinicians nationwide in the interpretation and application of genetic cancer testing to support integrative, personalized care.
The Importance of Proactive Cancer Prevention
When it comes to cancer prevention, early detection saves lives—but true prevention goes deeper. Conventional screening can reveal disease once it has already formed, while a functional medicine approach looks upstream to understand why it might develop in the first place.
At the Upper Room Clinic, we study the flow and efficiency of your biological systems, much like forecasting weather patterns—analyzing how your body’s internal environment is likely to behave under stress or imbalance. By evaluating your family history, past health data, and current biomarkers, we can pinpoint where your systems may be vulnerable and monitor them closely over time.
We also offer advanced diagnostic testing options that go beyond conventional medicine, identifying cancer risk factors, genetic predispositions, and metabolic imbalances long before disease appears. This proactive screening empowers you to take control of your health trajectory through knowledge, prevention, and informed action.
Genetic & Advanced Testing: What It Means
Screening your cancer’s genetics is like hiring a private investigator—you’re getting to know the ins and outs of who you’re dealing with. Through blood-based markers, genomic mapping, and RGCC molecular diagnostics, we can detect subtle cellular changes that signal potential cancer risk long before symptoms appear.
For instance, one of the greatest challenges during cancer treatment is treatment resistance. Our cancer biomarker tests include resistance markers that can reveal when it’s time to adjust or change therapeutic strategies—providing insight that standard testing can’t.
This form of personalized screening evaluates your immune function and biochemical balance, showing how your body is responding to both internal and environmental stressors. As an early adopter of advanced molecular diagnostics in Canada, Upper Room Clinic empowers you with precise, data-driven insights—turning complex results into proactive prevention strategies tailored to you.
RGCC Genetic Cancer Testing Explained
RGCC testing, sometimes called “the Greek Test,” is an advanced blood test developed by the Research Genetic Cancer Centre, a global laboratory that studies how cancer behaves at the genetic level.
Unlike standard lab tests that only look for existing tumors, RGCC testing looks for early warning signs—including circulating cancer cells and tiny genetic changes that may increase your risk in the future. The test can also show how certain cancer cells respond to different treatments, helping to identify which approaches may work best for your body.
At the Upper Room Clinic, we use this information to design a personalized prevention plan focused on reducing risk, improving immune strength, and keeping your body’s internal environment as healthy as possible. It’s about getting ahead of cancer—not waiting for it to develop.
Biomarkers & Molecular Diagnostics for Risk
Beyond genetic testing, cancer biomarkers and molecular diagnostics offer another layer of insight into your overall health. These tests measure subtle changes in your blood chemistry, metabolism, and cellular function—acting as an early warning system for cancer risk and other imbalances that may lead to disease over time.
At the Upper Room Clinic, we use advanced panels such as Immune Frame, SpectraCell Micronutrient, Onconomics Plus, and PrimeSpot to evaluate key factors like oxidative stress, nutrient deficiencies, and DNA methylation patterns. Together, these findings help us understand how your body is adapting to stress, detoxifying, and repairing itself at the cellular level.
With this information, our team creates a personalized roadmap to restore balance, optimize metabolism, and reduce the biological conditions that allow illness to develop.
How Upper Room Implements Cancer Testing in Practice
At the Upper Room Clinic, cancer prevention and testing are personalized, evidence-based processes designed to give you clarity, confidence, and direction. Every patient begins with a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Biljana Kostovic, our lead physician and Canada’s primary specialist in RGCC genetic testing.
For logistical and quality assurance reasons, all cancer testing blood samples are drawn on Tuesdays. This ensures that your specimen arrives at our partner laboratories in Europe—such as RGCC (Research Genetic Cancer Centre) within a timely manner. Samples are packaged according to strict international guidelines to preserve integrity and accuracy.
If you are referred by another provider, a consultation with Dr. Kostovic is still required. In some cases, this appointment may be shorter if your clinician provides sufficient background and clinical notes.
Once your results are received, our physician reviews them in detail, integrating RGCC findings with your personal and family history, current symptoms, and other diagnostic data. From there, she develops a personalized prevention or treatment plan that reflects your biology and best interests.
Dr. Kostovic brings over 30 years of experience in emergency and chronic care medicine to each case. She may recommend a different therapy than you initially expected—always with your safety, survival, and long-term outcome as her highest priorities.
Interpreting Results: From Risk to Action Plan
Once your results arrive, Dr. Biljana Kostovic reviews every detail to translate complex laboratory data into a clear, actionable plan for you. Each report—whether from RGCC, TruDiagnostic, or another specialized lab—is analyzed in the context of your unique biology, medical history, and overall health goals.
Rather than focusing only on what’s wrong, Dr. Kostovic looks for patterns of imbalance—nutrient deficiencies, oxidative stress, immune suppression, or hormonal shifts—that may increase cancer risk or hinder recovery. These findings help us design a functional medicine plan that strengthens your body’s resilience, reduces inflammation, and restores optimal cellular health.
Your personalized action plan may include therapies such as nutritional supplement plan, IV Ozone, Vitamin C infusions, immune support protocols, precision therapies, nutrition and lifestyle strategies, or referral for additional testing as needed. The goal is always to move from information to empowerment—from identifying risk to actively preventing disease.
Who Should Do It: Candidates for Advanced Testing
Cancer prevention and genetic testing aren’t just for those already diagnosed—they’re for anyone who wants to understand their risk and take proactive steps to protect their health.
At Upper Room Clinic, we recommend advanced testing for:
- Individuals with a family history of cancer or genetic predisposition.
- Patients who’ve had environmental or chemical exposure, or long-term stress and inflammation.
- Those who’ve completed cancer treatment and want to monitor for recurrence.
- People seeking preventive and longevity-focused health strategies.
- Anyone who feels “something isn’t right” despite normal test results and wants a deeper investigation.
Testing is safe, non-invasive, and performed through a simple blood draw. For many patients, this is the first step toward understanding their body’s biology—and using that knowledge to build lifelong resilience.
Integrating Prevention Into Ongoing Health Strategy
At the Upper Room Clinic, prevention is a lifestyle, not a single moment in care. The most successful patients we see—those who have fought stage 4 cancer and stayed in long-term remission—share one important trait: they never stop treating themselves as a work in progress.
They maintain their health through regular maintenance diagnostics, IV nutrient or ozone therapy (as recommended), and detox programs that keep their systems balanced and strong. They also practice ongoing self-awareness, monitoring their energy, immunity, and emotional wellbeing for any signs of imbalance.
Cancer takes advantage of the body’s weakest points, which is why these patients pay close attention to major life events—severe infections, emotional loss, trauma, or stress—that can shift their internal compass. Through functional medicine programs focused on hormone balance, immune optimization, NAD+ therapy, and integrative oncology, we help patients strengthen those weak points and protect against reactivation.
At Upper Room Clinic, prevention is a partnership—a continuous, guided process that keeps you connected to your body and supported by your care team for years to come.
What to Expect: Timeline, Costs & Follow-Up
Your experience at the Upper Room Clinic is designed to be clear, supportive, and structured from start to finish.
Most RGCC genetic cancer tests take about 3–4 weeks to process, as samples are sent to our partner laboratory in Europe. Once results are received, Dr. Biljana Kostovic personally reviews every case and schedules a follow-up consultation to explain your findings and outline next steps.
Testing and interpretation fees typically range from $600 to $1,200, depending on the type of panel and additional biomarker analysis. Some patients also choose to add complementary diagnostics—such as oxidative stress testing, TruDiagnostic epigenetic panels, or SpectraCell micronutrient testing—to gain a more complete picture of their health.
Because these are private laboratory services, they are not covered by OHIP, but we provide clear pricing and payment options at the time of booking. Follow-up care is fully individualized, with recommended check-ins determined at the time of consultation, to monitor your progress and adjust preventive therapies as needed.
Next Steps: Scheduling Your Cancer Risk Assessment

Patient Case Study: Prostate Cancer Stage 4
I’ll never forget one of our first patients at the Upper Room Clinic—a man we’ll call “Jay.” He was around 70 when he first came through our doors, having already seen multiple specialists. He had been given a short timeline to live.
When I met him, his skin was pale and ashy, his body frail, and he walked slowly with a cane. Cancer had metastasized throughout his bones; his doctors had told him that any fall or strong movement could be fatal. And yet, despite all of that, I could see something in him—a quiet fight, a refusal to give up.
At the time, we were a brand-new clinic—Jay was patient number five, maybe even earlier. We weren’t yet offering RGCC cancer testing, only IV ozone therapy and other nutrient infusions. When I discussed his case with Dr. Biljana Kostovic, she looked at me and said, “What am I going to do for him?” But Jay trusted her immediately. He saw her intelligence, her compassion, and her honesty.
While Dr. Kostovic pursued specialized RGCC training in Europe, she supported Jay with treatments to maintain his strength and stabilize his condition. Once she completed her training, we performed his first RGCC test, which guided a personalized treatment strategy tailored to his biology.
Eight years later, Jay is still with us—and thriving. His bone metastases are gone. He walks unaided, regained his strength and weight, and looks twenty years younger.
His recovery wasn’t easy. He changed everything—his diet, his lifestyle, his mindset. He gave up foods he loved, took medications and supplements that made him nauseated, and still never stopped. I remember one day during treatment, he was vomiting, but he looked up and said, “Keep going.”
That moment defined him—and, in many ways, it defined us.
At the Upper Room Clinic, we don’t make promises. But we do believe in persistence, precision, and the human will to heal. Jay’s journey is a reminder that sometimes the combination of the right science, the right doctor, and the right mindset can change the ending.
