Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy (also called photobiomodulation, PBM, or low-level laser therapy) uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support skin health, recovery, and cellular function. At Upper Room Clinic in Toronto we use clinical-grade equipment in a comfortable, professionally supervised setting — not a consumer device.

What is it?

Red light therapy delivers concentrated wavelengths in the red (typically 630–660 nm) and near-infrared (810–850 nm) spectrum to the body. These wavelengths reach into the skin and underlying tissue where they're absorbed by the mitochondria — the energy-producing components of your cells. The result is increased cellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, which supports tissue repair, reduced inflammation, and improved circulation.

Unlike ultraviolet (UV) light, red light does not damage skin or carry cancer risk. It's non-thermal at clinical doses — you may feel gentle warmth, but it won't burn.

How we use red light therapy at Upper Room Clinic

We integrate red light therapy into broader treatment plans for:

  • Skin health and rejuvenation — supporting collagen production, evening tone, and reducing fine lines and inflammation
  • Recovery support — after PRP, microneedling, or aesthetic procedures, to accelerate healing and reduce downtime
  • Joint and muscle pain — as a complementary therapy alongside prolotherapy, prolozone, and PRP injections
  • Improved circulation — supporting wound healing and tissue oxygenation
  • Hair follicle support — used in combination with PRP hair restoration

The Benefits

A single red light session is useful, but the strongest results come from combining red light with our other therapies. Patients receiving microneedling, PRP, or topical exosomes often see better penetration and outcomes when red light is added to their protocol — the increased blood flow helps deliver active ingredients deeper into the skin.

Is Red Light Therapy Right For You?

Most adults are candidates for red light therapy. We do not recommend it during active malignancy without oncologist approval, in areas of recently injected steroid (avoid 48 hours), or directly over the abdomen during pregnancy. We screen at consultation and adapt the protocol to your needs.

During Treatment

A typical red light session takes 15–30 minutes. You'll be positioned for direct exposure to the device with appropriate eye protection. Most patients describe the experience as relaxing — a gentle, warm light, no needles, no recovery time. You can return to normal activity immediately after. Frequency depends on your goals. For aesthetic outcomes, 2–3 sessions per week for 4–8 weeks is typical, then a maintenance schedule. For acute injury recovery, more frequent short sessions over 2–4 weeks. We'll build a plan based on your specific goals during your initial consultation.

Why Choose Upper Room Clinic for Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy is widely available in spa settings and at-home consumer devices, but the protocol you receive at a clinic should reflect more than wattage and timer. At Upper Room Clinic in Toronto, red light is part of a coordinated regenerative care plan, not a standalone product:

  • Clinical-grade equipment delivering specific 630–660 nm and 810–850 nm wavelengths at therapeutic doses, not consumer-grade output
  • Physician-led integration — Dr. Kostovic brings over 30 years in regenerative medicine, integrative oncology, and chronic-illness care, building red light into protocols alongside PRP, microneedling, prolotherapy, and HOCATT ozone sauna for compounded results
  • Patient-centred protocols — every red light plan is built around your specific goals (skin rejuvenation, post-procedure recovery, joint support, hair restoration), not a one-size-fits-all package
  • Whole-person medicine — our team identifies root contributors to inflammation, slow recovery, and skin concerns rather than treating each symptom in isolation
  • Convenient Toronto location at 1849 Yonge Street, with Oakville coming soon, serving the GTA

Patients choose us because we combine evidence-based medicine with a deeply compassionate, personalized approach to every visit.
