Iron Infusions

Iron IV infusions deliver therapeutic iron directly into circulation, bypassing the digestive absorption issues that limit oral supplementation. At Upper Room Clinic, iron IV is offered for patients with confirmed iron deficiency or iron-deficiency anemia where oral supplementation is insufficient, intolerable, or not absorbed well.

Important: iron IV is not a wellness drip

Iron is a tightly regulated mineral with risk of overload and adverse reaction. It is administered only after lab confirmation (ferritin, iron, TIBC, hemoglobin) and physician review. We do not offer iron IV without bloodwork on file.

Who is generally a candidate

Patients with documented iron-deficiency anemia
Patients with malabsorption from celiac, IBD, or post-gastric-surgery
Pregnant patients (in coordination with their obstetrician)
Patients who cannot tolerate oral iron due to GI side effects
Heavy menstrual blood loss patients

Who shouldn't have iron IV

Patients with iron overload (hereditary or acquired), active infection, hypersensitivity to IV iron preparations, or pregnancy in the first trimester need careful evaluation. We may decline or defer iron IV based on screening.

During Treatment

Iron IV infusions typically run 30–60 minutes depending on the formulation. Patients are monitored for the duration and for 30 minutes afterward, since allergic reactions, while rare, can occur. Repeat dosing depends on the deficit and your treatment plan. Bring your most recent bloodwork to your consultation, or contact Upper Room Clinic Toronto to coordinate testing first.
