Botox Injections

Botox injections at Upper Room Clinic are used both aesthetically and medically. While most people associate Botox with cosmetic line reduction, it's also an evidence-based treatment for chronic migraines, neck pain, jaw clenching (bruxism), and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).

What is it?

Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin type A — a purified protein that temporarily relaxes targeted muscles by blocking nerve signals. Approved by Health Canada for both cosmetic and medical uses, Botox has decades of clinical safety data behind it.

Aesthetic uses

For cosmetic concerns, Botox softens dynamic wrinkles — the lines that form from repeated facial expression. Common treatment areas include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines (between the brows, also called “11s”)
  • Crow's feet (around the eyes)
  • Bunny lines (along the nose)
  • Chin dimpling and lip flips

Results typically appear in 3–7 days and last 3–4 months. Touch-ups are scheduled around that interval to maintain outcomes.

The Benefits

Beyond aesthetics, Botox is highly effective for:

  • Chronic migraines — Health Canada approves Botox for migraines occurring 15+ days per month. A series of small injections across the head and neck can dramatically reduce migraine frequency and severity.
  • Neck pain and tension — Botox can relax persistently tight neck and shoulder muscles that contribute to chronic pain.
  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) — Underarms, palms, and feet that sweat beyond normal can be treated with targeted Botox to block the sweat-gland nerves.
  • TMJ / jaw clenching — Reduces masseter muscle tension for those grinding their teeth or experiencing jaw pain.

Who's a Candidate?

Most adults are candidates for Botox. We do not perform Botox during pregnancy or lactation, in active skin infection at the injection site, or in patients with neuromuscular disorders. We always start with a consultation to confirm fit.

During Treatment

Treatment takes 15–30 minutes. We use very fine needles, and topical numbing is available. There's no downtime — most patients return to work or daily activity immediately. Mild bruising or tenderness at injection sites can occur.
